Wedding Dress Tips for the Voluptuous Bride

Find figure flattering styles for the curvaceous bride.

Give yourself time. Start your gown hunting as early as possible so you’re not pressured into choosing something you’re not crazy about.

Consider purchasing custom made or at least have a tailor alter a ready-made gown so it fits you perfectly. Custom designing will make it easier to have the perfect dress for your body shape.

Scale and Proportion - patterns, embellishments and fabrics should work to balance your bodies proportions not draw attention to areas you want to hide. For example if you have large hips don’t add a big bow on the backside of your gown.

Sample sizes at most bridal salons are size 10-12 before heading to the store call and make sure they can accommodate you with larger sample sizes. Many designers have plus sizes available to purchase, but there may be an extra fee. Trunk shows may offer a wider variety of sizes. The salon can make suggestions and direct you to designers that will best work for you, saving you time and disappointment.

Be comfortable    and try your dress on with the underwear you plan to wear the day of the wedding. Shapers can take off inches, but they have to be comfortable. Sit in the gown, stand in it, turn and twist a bit to make sure things stay in place. Make sure your gown is not tight as it will make you look larger.

Disguising Problem Areas

Large arms can be c amouflaged with a long sheer or ¾ length sleeve. A cap sleeve will soften the shoulders. Avoid tight sleeves, heavily embellished spaghetti straps, halters and leg-of-mutton sleeves, which will emphasize your arm area.

Large hips can appear smaller with an A-line silhouette.

Large midriff   can be disguised with an empire waist with no cuts or pleats on the bodice. Asymmetrical details like draping can direct the focal point away from problem areas and disguise bulges.

Petite Plus figures c an appear taller with an empire waist as it creates the illusion of height because it falls from right under the bust line.
