- Trappist Ale Terminology

A Trappist beer is a beer brewed by Trappist monks originating in the 19th century of France. Currently there are only seven official Trappist brewers in the world (six reside in Belgium the other in the Netherlands). All seven brewers are recognized Trappist brewers and bear a logo authenticating their compliance with various guidelines outlined by the International Trappist Association.   

Some Famous Trappist Ales include: Orval and Chimay
